Seems dreamhost suddenly decided NOT to allow this anymore.

Chovy,

I’ve been following your dreamhost posts. You’re still with them. How do like the service? Earlier you complained about terminal window response time. Still a problem? How about web page response time? Any other complaints

The one thing I like about DH plans is that they offer shell and log access. Most hosts require that you buy a dedicated server before you get shell/log access. I still have not used DH because my current host, sectorlink, has had such GREAT, friendly service and you can call any time M-F to talk with someone and email 24×7 with about 15 min response time.
Thanks

On Day 25 (see latest post), I have had ups and downs.

current complaints:
1) database can only have 1 user
2) frequent, but minimal down times (but it’s still better than neureal’s dropped connections
3) only get your own process in ‘top’

Other than that, they are awesome.
I give them about an 88% rating.

100% would be no problem.

as to their tech support, i am happy with 1-3 day waittime (depending on urgency) for tech support questions.

If you will loose money if your site is down, i probably would not use Dreamhost. My next stop would be www.clari.net

You still with Dreamhost? Do you still like them? I just signed up for an account at 1&1 and so far am very happy. They are a little slow creating a new account; I’m used to seeing a new account with an hour. They took 4 hours. But once it was set up, they have a lot of easy-to-use tools for creating email accounts, ftp users, adding and removing domains, and so on. Also, you can call them for support and the wait time is about 5-10 minutes. Not sure about their reliability, but have read they are pretty good. Of course, you can always find a disgruntled customer with an axe to grind, but most posts I read were positive. We’ll see. You get a LOT for your money, even more than at Dreamhost.

The reason you could only have one db per user is because they would fill up their database servers sequentially. So every database you create could be on a different server.

However they have since changed this so each user has a dedicated DB server where all their databases go. In order to accommodate future growth this also means the servers are generally less crowded. It also limits the number of other users that could affect you at the expense of all your databases going down if there’s a problem. All in all, Dreamhost service has really improved in the last year.

There are no limits for number of DB users now.

Great Deal

Gonna give them a try. I found out if you use the promo code ‘30AYEAR’ you get a full year for less than 30 bucks. Worth the chance for me.
