I finished reading The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy last night. It was a funny story, read through it in a breeze. There are a few names I recognized from technology companies, which apparently have taken their name from this book.
1) Google (they claim they got their name from a large number called a Google, but the word is also used in this book).
2) Babble Fish (in the book, it’s a fish that if you stick it in your ear, it will translate any language in the universe.
3) Trillian (not sure if this is the same as the Trillian Instant Messaging client)
google is a number defined as 1 followed by a hundred ‘0’s
10 to the power of 100
Glad I read this, or I would have forgotten that google was a number!
