Removing MSN Messenger from XP

It appears, after my last XP update, MS has decided to shove their crappy little instant messaging client down my throat.
Here are some instructions I found on the web on how to remove it, or at least keep it from starting up when you reboot:

MSN Messenger is typically a waste of system resources.

To remove the MSN Messenger from starting…

* Click Start
* Click Run
* Enter RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

This did it for me!

For a better instant messenger client, which supports all the major protocals in one app, try Gaim (open source).

Spot on mate! works a treat! It’s great being able to use my PC without having to wait for MSN to load while I boot up. No silly messages about my system needing upgrades, virus protection etc, yada yada yada, is great too.

thanks, tried a few different things i found online (including other run command lines) but this is the one that worked! no more microshaft crap :)

JUST BEEN SEARCHING THROUGH WEB FOR A SITE WITH INSTRUCTIONS FOR REMOVING MSN MESSENGER, NIECE USES IT ON MY COMPUTER AND WAS GETTING FED UP EVERYTIME WE SWITCHED COMPUTER ON IT AUTOMATICLLY SIGNED INTO TO MSN. CAME ACROSS YOUR INSTRUCTIONS TRIED IT AND HOPEFULLY NOW IT HAS REMOVED IT COMPLETLY.
