Ogg Vorbis is the only truly free stream that media outlets should provide. It works everywhere in any player on any platform. Sooner or later, the corporate media will pull their head out of the arse and get a clue.
More streaming audio and video.

Umm… yes, OGG Vorbis is really a nice codec, but it’s defenately not available for every platform.
I’m searching for an OGG Vorbis Firefox-plugin for hours, but I canntot find a thing…
It’s a pity!

OGG/Vorbis is a horrible format for streaming. The OGG container format has a header which must be provided before any audio/video data can be sent, and must contain information that would typically be unavailable in a live streaming environment.

It is also useless if you join a stream part-way through in a P2P or multicast environment for example. Unicast OGG streaming servers get away with this by forgeing a header each and every time a user connects. Unfortunately, the bandwidth cost of unicasting are many, many times more that of any MP3 licensing requirement.

MP3 is a much better format for streaming. A player can join a stream at any point and play the audio that follows without the requirement for any header information that may have passed.
