Today there have been confirmed network problems with Comcast outages in the Bay Area. After calling them, they said no outage on the phone, but the Live Chat from their web site, they said there WERE outages in my area.

However, they’d rather hide that fact from you, even on their “Network Health” page for 408 area code, they claim “Healthy!
At this time, your Comcast High-Speed Internet service is operating normally. Check back frequently. Network Health updates for your area will be posted here.”

Now, what is the point of a Network Status page, that doesn’t report when there’s an outage? Well, the only conclusion I can come to is that they don’t want the negative publicity. So that’s why I’m posting. If they didn’t try to trick everybody, I wouldn’t have had a problem.

what’s up?
I’m getting the same exact problem and I’m out here in Maine. My ISP is Adelphia (Comcast) and I am getting absolute crap connection out here.

My report also says “Healthy”.

Question?
After installing the High Speed Internet it didn’t connect. Called Tec Support after working wiht him I was told it was the modem or splitter.Would cost me %49.95 for him to come and fix it. Took it back for another and the sale person told me it was the filter on the pole.
Nice way for them to make money don’t you think?

I’m in the Dallas area, and comcast has been really reliable…until a month ago. Now it’s up more than it’s down. I’ve had a tech out and of course, it was up when he got here so said there’s not problem and that it would cost me 49.95. The next morning it was down. My neighbor up the street is down at the same time as me as well as the neighbor across the street. A ping to their website shows a 75% loss, and a trace route shows that several of their routers are not responding. My neighbor called and one tech told him it had something to do with switching over to fiber. WELL, if they know what’s causing it then why send out a tech. When it went down the day after a tech came I called in and wouldn’t even talk to the tech on the phone, I immediately asked for his boss. The previous service charge has been dropped, and tech that is supposed to be higher level is supposed to come out to check the cable and the line up the neighborhood. I can almost guarantee that the issue is going to be further back than that. I told them the deal was I pay them money, in return they were supposed to give me a RELIABLE high speed connection and that they weren’t living up to their end of the bargain. So, until it’s fixed, I pay nothing. Which seems nice, except I’m getting nothing. Thank god I kept a dial up account on my laptop… Jack

I had intermittent issues, and after 7 or 8 techs, it was determined that there was a line feeding off my line (going to my neighbor) in the attic, he removed that line, and it’s been working fine ever since.

I agree their $49.95 threat of a charge if it’s “your fault” is bogus.

Incidentally, all you comcast users may want to give ‘em a call and ask for the $19/month for broadband, because yahoo is offering it at $15/month.

comcast would not charge you 49.95 to check a problem with the service that you are paying. they provide the service and have to maintain the service for as long as you have it. also if you called comcast back up after a tech was at your home to speak to him about the issue with your home or if you had a problem with the tech and or the service that he provided you at the time he was out there to fix the issuse, you would not talk to him. you most likely will never have anymore direct conntact with himm at all. you would be then dealing more with the CAE “who answers thee phone” then up the ladder to eventually someone who deals with the techs.

Well Comcast high speed internet has done it again…all services went down one day and then two days later they went down again right along with my hard drive. A 160gig hard drive to be exact. Actually, it was my entire system that was the victim of electromagnetic spark. So I am on my laptop once again with no access to any of my e-books. And this will be the second router I have lost as well.
When the internet services went down, somehow the configuration in my modem got misconfigured, I was locked out of my own router and the motherboard wouldn’t even see the hard drive that is now rendered useless.
Upon finally hacking into my own router, I found that MY computer was set in DMZ mode. Which is something that I would never do.
So the spike that was sent through the modem went straight through to my computer.
Why are they after me?
Well I know that there is a lot of corporate greed going on within Comcast’s walls in Fresno and I have enough information to take them to court and win.
They would like to think that they could shut me up by disabling my systems…but the more damage they do to me the more I will make it public and the more I will talk.
Comcast is a multibillion dollar company that bought out AT&T lines and started offering cable services without even checking the stability of the lines and charging way too much for a service that would become problematic.
Comcast is literally paying one city money because the entire city took them to court for bad services due to line problems.
Now you know how hideous these people are…here’s my story…
I used to work for a company that was a contractor company for Comcast…I was there to help with the installations of the high speed internet. None of the installers there knew anything about computers and my job description was to train the installers and do high level troubleshooting to the customers computers that did not pass and did not want to load the HSI.
For part of this was good because for the most part, the troublesome systems that some of the customers owned was out of the realm of what Comcast or any contractor could do and I went on my off hours and was paid quite sweetly independently for resolving their issues and getting them online.
It was a win win situation.
This went on for four months and then someone started to complain that I was no longer an asset to the company even though I had saved a lot of HSI jobs and created money for them, so they changed my job description.
Dispatcher.
I reluctantly took the position under the promise from the president of the company that I would have the HSI back and that I would be running that entity in less than three months.
I was there for over 6 months dispatching the installers.
Well this job took me out of my field, and the longer I was out of the loop, I knew that I would have a harder time getting back in.
Meanwhile there was a few new hires
Mark Demler: president
Tom Forse: supervisor of half of installers as well as sales division.
Now keep in mind, this is not Comcast, but rather a contracting company that does work for Comcast.
Not only did this company add some employees, but they also changed the name from Aesthetic Installations to CSI.
All of these changes were done in less than a month.
Now Mark Demler went up against Comcast in an effort to gain more money from the company and lost his efforts. CSI hurt financially for his mistakes and bad business ethics.
Tom Forse has an interesting job history himself.
This individual was once a employee of Comcast and was caught stealing equipment and was fired. Comcast again rehired this idiot and he once again was caught stealing and altering documents. He was fired again. But still remained friends with Brad Logan who is in charge of the contractors.
Now you would think that this person would be banned from ever working in the cable industry again but this person always seems to make his way back in.
He after being fired from Comcast twice, was hired by a different contracting company called Prince Telecom that works directly under Comcast.
He was not there too long until the owner came from out of state to relieve Tom Forse of his duties. Again he was fired.
CSI hired him on after all of this and gave him a supervisor position.
Why?
Well because he is such an expert at altering documents, they figured that they could benefit from his wrong doings is all I can figure.
Now while I was in dispatching, I was called by several of the installers informing me of a meeting that was held without my presence. The reason for this was that Tom Forse was trying to take over the sales of the HSI on the business level.
The entire HSI entity was promised to me and all the installers knew of this and like me couldn’t wait till I was back in the office running it because I knew what I was doing and was a real asset to the installers.
Well I was livid about this and on my lunch break I left the Comcast dispatching building and went over to CSI to confront Tom Forse
Keep in mind that I worked with other employees that were Comcast dispatchers as well as the contractor dispatchers. All dispatching was done from one building, so I had the opportunity to get to know a lot about what went on behind the scenes. I was warned about Tom Forse.
OK back to confronting him….he insistently denied what he said but I then confirmed it by contacting the president.
I asked Tom Forse pretty simple technical questions that he could not answer…I then told him that selling HSI demanded that a person have some technical background just in case the customers had questions.
I knew that my dream of getting out of dispatching was just that…a dream.
I informed the president that I was searching for work geared more towards what I was trained for because dispatching was not a part of what I wanted to do and the job itself was dead end.
I gave him a heads up on this so the company could have time to replace me.
The president of the company was not pleased about this at all and shortly afterwards I received a call from Tom Forse while I was at work in dispatching inquiring about “how to alter a document that was scanned”. I was floored at his request and was at a loss for words because all I could think about were the warnings about him and his criminal ways.So I decided to tell him that I didn’t know what the extension was thinking that he would just give up…he told me the extension…I then asked him what it was that he was wanting to copy and he told me that it was none of my business. He then asked me if I had software that would allow him to make changes to documents and I said that I did but the EULA would not allow me to install it on his computer. Besides that I bought this software for my use not his and it is registered to me and I knew that I would be the blame for any wrong doing. I informed Tom Forse that he could buy this software at Office Depot and that someone there would help him find the right software that he needed. I did not want to be a part of this scandal. I felt it my responsibility to let the president know what was going on.
I called Mark Demlers cell phone and he instantly turned things around stating that he had complaints about me from Comcast dispatching. I talked to everyone over there and nobody had problems with me It was just made up to cover their tracks about the scandal that was unfolding.
Meanwhile things seemingly got worse at work. Tom Forse and Gerald Pena were constantly calling me and trying to establish a lunch date with Tom Forse.
I was put in a very uncomfortable position and was nervous about why he wanted to take me out to lunch when I had nothing to do with sales.
Gerald Pena who was my manager at the time and from the beginning was the one trying to orchestrate the luncheon. I told Gerald of my uneasiness of the situation and refused to go alone with Tom Forse. I informed him that HE had to go as well or I would not go. They persisted and I was troubled by this and took it to the lead dispatcher Troy Jenkins who was one of many that informed me to be cautious of Tom Forse. He even said that it was a good idea to not go and that he believed he was up to something.
That issue did die down and eventually go away because I did not comply due to lack of trust.
And rightfully so.
There was a day that I had to go to the office and take care of the network there because Tom Forse screwed it up trying to connect his computer to it.
I was left there unattended and there was some paperwork on his desk that was changed, copied, changed, copied and changed and copied again.
The paperwork was part of the weekly work done by an installer that he was lessening the work that was done by the installer and making it look like he was doing the work.I also found paperwork on installers that were not bonded and was out on jobs.
Everyone that warned me about Tom Forse was so right on the money about how he was.
I started searching for another job even harder than I did before as I just didn’t want to be any part of this company.
Work got harder and harder due to lack of communication on the radios. This was intentional I believe because Nextel never had issues hooking up the radios when I worked in the office but now there were issues? For 4 months.
I could not have proper communication with the installers and some did not meet time frames or was in a bind and I could not contact them on the radios to help resolve it.
I had to play phone tag with the customers that the installers had lined up to see where they were so I could put in the computer that they had completed their jobs…but sometimes the installers could not be reached so I could not close out the job till I knew for a fact that it was done.
I was blamed for this and was yelled at.
This put a lot of pressure on me and then I also found out that I was the lowest paid dispatcher.
I said that I would stay (only because I couldn’t seem to find work in the IT field) but I had worked there for almost a year and asked for a 25 cent raise.
I was denied this but some of the installers were getting bonuses.
I then had to start putting in overtime because after my shift there was nobody to replace me and nobody else at Comcast wanted to take over the routes and taking care of the installers because of the problems that entailed it.
I had tried getting in touch with the manager to tell him about this problem because I was told not to accumulate any overtime but he could not be reached.
it was an issue that was never resolved
So I started writing down the over time because I believed that I needed to be compensated for the time that was put in.
I also had other dispatchers that will testify me trying to get in touch with the manager and not being able to reach him.
I never got compensated for the overtime, rather I was written up for it.
I was also written up for calling the new supervisor shamu. It was a joke between me and the installers and never left us but Tom Forse overheard the installers talking about him and the fact that they did not like him and referred to him as shamu. He was called a lot worse by the other installers and I was the one that tamed it down to shamu. We were in a small circle when we were talking and there were no customers around.
I admitted to it but wanted Tom Forse to admit that he was bad mouthing the installers by saying that they were paranoid scitzos when I went to talk to him about taking over the HSI. He never did.
One day before labor day was set on a Monday when converter control was closed.
All equipment for the following day had to be gotten that day ahead of time.
Tom Forse AND Gerald Pena came into dispatching demanding that I take care of this by letting all of the techs know they needed to get their equipment for tomorrow today before 3pm.
I was at that point on the phone per Comcast resolving an issue with a customer and was almost done with the call but Gerald informed me that I needed to hang up with the customer and listen to them.
They both Comcast and csi put me in the middle of stress leaving me no option but to mess up one or the other. Catch 22.
Gerald cornered me in the cubicle, getting up in my face like they do in the military and I told him that he was in my personal space and to please back off, he did not comply and I had to threaten to quit to make him leave. He scared me as he had talked about killing women and children while in the military (Marines) when we were going to accounts together while I was training him for the HSI.
My father was a marine but he NEVER talked candidly or openly about his time in war. And my father was in no way a threat so I do not believe that this killer instinct should be brought out in civilian life.
My father NEVER bragged about the lives he had to take during war time but Gerald Pena did.
Plus he was an erratic driver running red lights and turning into oncoming traffic.
I hated riding with him when I was training with him. He is a danger on the road.

And because of all that has occurred, I lost my job.
All over their lies.

I went on with my life and looked to find employment but Tom Forse put a crease in that whenever an employer called he bashed me, making it seem like I was the worst employee stating that I arrived late when I never did and that I was lazy which I was not. I know that there is a law against this and I do have witnesses.

Now that I have decided to come forward I have lost a TV, a VCR, a DVD player and now a high dollar computer…all rendered useless.
Comcast has also lost equipment as well…a lot of equipment. I have the paper to prove it.
What they are doing is sending spikes through the lines and killing our equipment…I have since the day of the internet going down have lost rights to my router 5 times…someone keeps changing my settings and putting a computer in DMZ mode. I called tech support and was told that my modem was misconfigured but nobody has been out to replace it. I had to hack my own router just to get to the settings and found out then. The logs were intentionally wiped to cover any traces. I have had to reset my router 5 times so far. This is nonsense and I want a full investigation on Comcast and CSI done.
I also want my computer replaced with one of equal value…same parts, same hard drive, etc.
I dont think I am asking for much.

Until these issues are resolved, I am dropping Comcast all together and going DSL. At least their lines are dedicated and they do care about their customers.
I will miss the line speed but it is always condusive to DSL speeds, and I am sure there is nobody there that will sabotage my equipment and if something did happen, they would resolve the problem with quickness.
A happy customer is a customer that will remain one.

Sincerely, Carlene Blair

That’s funny, I live in Livermore and am now going through this experience. I signed up in the first week of August and by August 10th, I finally got on.

I didn’t experience problems until last night when I came home from work. I found I had no Internet access from my home machine. I troubleshot this for 3 hours until I called Comcast’s tech support. After going through the tech support methods they recommended–most of which I already tried by the time I called–the call ended when the tech rep told me that they had a new report of an outage in Livermore.

Thinking that was that, I decided to wait until the morning. At 05:30 this morning, it was still down. I called tech support again. This time the tech I talked to said that there were no outages in my area–last night or now for that matter.

This is most frustrating. I switched to Comcast because my SBC DSL was slower in Livermore than it was in my old place in Oakland.

My problem here is that I also do after-hours support for my employer and that I need a somewhat-fast connection so I can do my job. With Comcast going flaky the way it did, I am not sure I can use them further, especially on weeks where I have the on-call phone.

Yes, the problem I’ve found with Comcast is that their phone support people are RARELY aware of an outage in the area. And seeminlgly in your case, blame an outage when none exists.

Fact is, their network is flaky. I’ve had rock solid connection from comcast for about 20 months out of 24. Twice during the past two years, I had connection problems that took 30 days or more to resolve in each case.

It’s cheap ($19/month), and fast. But when it goes down…good luck getting it resolved.

Oh i got some horror storys to tell u about comcast,
#1 comcast isnt the “Leader” in highspeed internet they say they are, they started 5 years after cox communications started it. 7 years later they are saying they are going to be the leader in phone service to, thats 7 years after cox communication. I fully agree, Cable modems are WAY better than DSL, but comcast just plain sucks, I’d rather use a couple tin cans and a string. I had comcast in Merced, ca. Had it for like 6 months. For that whole six months not only did i have intermittant tv problems, i had total disconnections for hours, then when it was on id get lag in my games, so got the upgraded service (6MB) and it was worse, just going to pages even. had 16 diffrent comcasts techs/supers/mainenace, come out detect the problem but never correct it, they even gave me the first 3 months free! then at 6 months i called, said i had enough, they gave me a date they would be out to disconnect me, they didnt, drop internet, but not tv, then disconnected me a month later, and had the gaul to tell me to pay for their mistakes, sent me to collections, and … oh yeah, and…..want to charge me for a cable modem, (that i had 2 hand deliver back to them)the day i got it cus when i ordered the service, i told the rep only, 6 times, when it should have been 7, that i didnt need a cable modem, i already had 1. Then to top it all off, they want me to pay for the install, which i told them i didnt need and consisted of calling in my modems mac address, $100. If that wasnt great enough, they blame my highly tuned rocketship for a comp i got, “its ur computer” Do yourself a favor, vote comcast out of your community! im in novato now, same problems, the tv pic quality sucks and so does their internet.

[…] Comcast: Am I the only one who hates them? Hi, it’s funny, our senior clothing firm has over 9000 contacts in our database and about a thousand or more of them are comcast customers. We do not spam, at all. We have an optin list and we send mail twice a month to our customers AND we opt them out if they request us to do so via email OR they can opt out themselves very easily from our website or from the emails that we send them BUT we are constantly getting our mail to comcast customers bounced. It wouldn’t be such a bad thing if it was only the specials emails we sent that were getting bounced but its also our customer product shipping tracking notifications, customer order confirmation emails, customer password recovery emails, our own customer inquiry responses and more. I now have to forward all the bounces I get from comcast addresses to my gmail account and forward the original email to the intended comcast customer with this message: Hello faithful ‘Our Company’ customer. I am sorry to have to inform you that your internet service provider (ISP) has blocked your important mail from ‘Our Company’. That is the reason I am emailing you the message that was intended for your through this Gmail Account. There is a way to overcome this however and that would be to add the following email addresses to your address book or list of acceptable email senders: orders@ourdomain.com news@ourdomain.com webmaster@ourdomain.com or in some cases all mail coming from ourdomain.com. Also, I suggest that you call your internet service provider (ISP:Comcast) and let them know that you are having problems getting your email from a trusted company - namely ‘Our Copmany’ and that they are hindering you from receiving your important order information. They may be able to re-route your mail from ‘Our Company’ into your inbox. For Comcast you can call 1-800-266-2278 (if it works) For Verizon you can call 1-800-643-0997 to speak to a customer support representative. Lastly, below is a transcript of the email that was originally intended for you but was blocked by your ISP (Comcast). If you requested a new password it is there as well and can now be used. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you and I but I believe it is very important that you be able to receive specials, orders and password notifications. Kind regards, ——— So basically that is the email I send out through my Gmail account to Comcast customers to try and tick them off that their important mail is getting blocked. I have so many problems with Comcast in Denver, CO as well. I try to pay my bill over the phone with automated phone system and could not. When customer service rep came on line, she stated that they have problems with the automated system and for my convinience she will take the payment but charge will be applied of 3.95 for the my convenience. I had to speak with Manager, which was hard to find around. When I spoke with the Manager David, he did not help at all. The only responce I got was::If you not happy with the service from Comcast, you probably should look some place else.
