Capital One Sucks

16 Oct

Ok, another rant here about a company I’ve done business with…if you don’t want to hear it, move on, and use AAA Visa.

I was fed up with my AAA credit card, they kept changing the payment due date (billing cycle) on me, because I automatically paid off the min. every month from my bank (getting around their lame $35 late fee). By changing the billing cycle, it made my automatic payments late. Anyway, regardless of whether or not they did it on purpose, I was P.O.’d and left. So I went with “Capital One! – NO HASSLE CREDIT CARD!!!!”.

Ok, I knew it was bad after I told the clerk at my local 7-11, “Hey man, I just switche dto capital one, I was so pissed at my cc co.”, and his reply was “Capital One??!!! That’s the worst one!!!”.

So I thought, ok, well a bunch of vikings and all that crap chasing me. and “NO HASSLE”. Basically what this “NO HASSLE” policy translates is to: “Capital One – We have a NO HASSLE policy against our customers”. In other words, “Don’t Hassle Us”.

The first bill I paid off in full, and got both a late charge and a finance charge. So I thought, ok, we’re off on the wrong foot. I setup automatic payment with my bank, and we’re off. Bill #2 finance charge AGAIN. (By the way I ALWAYS pay it off in full when it’s due). I called them: Voice-Menu city. Took me 15 minutes to get a real person. “Hey, what’s with the bills?” They send you some cocka-mimi bill that doesn’t even make any sense (their web site sucks ass, can’t read the next billing cycle or when it’s due).

It’s a total scam to screw you over as much as possible. At least that’s how I felt.

Last week I spent 30 – 45 minutes dialing and re-dialing trying to get through their Bullstick menu system to a real person. Impossible. THis was saturday night. AAA has a rep on the phone 24/7 within 30 seconds of when I call. This is what I LOVE them for.

Capital One???? NOTHING. I said “screw it” and canceled the card over the voice activation menu, which came back with a voice saying “Our office hours are closed”….uh….I thought it was no hassle, and you guys provide THE BEST customer service??? Oh wait, those vikings are your customer service department!! NOW it makes sense!!!

So on monday, I called during business hours. AGAIN…no friggin’ human beings, ANYWAY…I went through every tree of that menu, and finally choose “press 6 to cancel card”…..THEN someone said “Hello, this is capital one, how may I help you?”.

I just started laughing at that. Anyway, I’m paying off the card, cashing my chips in and cancel the son of a .

PS- IF you want 8 pages of those godstick”free checks” (at 80% interest) with EVERY bill (in addition to a lame-ass layout on the actual bill), not to mention they are so cheap the friggin’ return address envelope has one of those f–king ads on it I have to tear off before I mail in my payment, THEN “Capital One” is for you :-)

I love blogging. Payback’s a ! :-D

More info? Google “capital one sucks

[update: 10/16/05 7:35pm] – I had to call them again, problem with their “Categorizing” my transactions. God . Bill me, tell what I spent, and leave me a lone. They have these stupid little perferarted ads on the top of every page on the bill that I have to tear off because it makes the paper extra wide. And 2 extra pages of bullstick about how to use the “Free checks” @ 80% APR.

Anyway, the reason for the update: I figured out their voice-menu. Enter in, listen to your balances, type in the info, etc. and when it gives you the choice “Enter a new acct. #” or “Hang up”, hit “#” this will take you to an operator (but you still have to enter more info via dialpad)…this is REALLY useless too, EVERY SINGLE company that asks me to dial it in, also has the rep ask the same thing. “Pass it on” you dipsticks, it’s called a variable!!! What? Your Voice menu can’t communite with your backend? !!!!

wait….it’s been 7 minutes…i forgot what the hell I even called about now…that’s okay, capital one. I WON”T HASSLE YOU TONIGHT, I”m TIRED OF WAITING!!!

Capital one is horrible. I had them as a business card, and it was downhill since I got it.
First, the person who got the card, was no longer part of the company, so we had Capital One transfer the balance to Me. Then, I received the letter stating they had transferred everything to me, and I am responsible for the charges, and will be receiving a statement within 7-10 business days after my cycle begins. Well, my cycle began a month later, and that letter was never received. I then received a call from a Litigation firm, stating this account was turned over to them, and they demand I pay the amount and it’s entirety within 24 hours, or they will contact everyone and anyone to get the money. I contacted Capital One, and was still getting transferred to this collection agency who pretends to be a law firm.
While trying to set up some kind of payment arrangements, they would not have it. They wanted to hold on the line, while I made some calls to friends & family to ask for 5,000 dollars!! Now, to me, that seems like really trying to put someone down, and make them look terrible.
After I could not come up with the money, they said good luck, as we tried all we could.

Again, I offered to pay them monthly, as well as give them my bank account information, and they can direct debit it on their own, and they still would not have it.

Terrible.. I will not recommend them to ANYONE!

C1 assesed me a late fee for $39. Trouble is, I paid my bill on-time and wasn’t late. My bill is due on the 29th of the month, I usually pay my bills around the end of the month, or around the 1st. Since I kept this as a practice, apparently C1 figured out my payment trends and changed my statement date to move my “due date” cycle after the 5th of each month. That meant if I paid my bill on the 1st of the month which is due on the 29th, I would be “late” and it would be credited to the prior month. I caught this today (06/30/09), then went back and looked at my years statements. They hit me with this over 5 times in the last 7 months! I was completely unaware (note: I pay online and they dont have a statement breakdown, you have to open a goddamn PDF to look at your statement, which is a pain). Anyway, I called C1 and let it rip… its kind of funny to hear a guy explain to me that I’ve been late with my payments when it was being paid AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH MONTH LIKE CLOCKWORK. Finally got walked up the chain, they moved my cycle BACK to where it used to be in 2007 where the bill was due on the 24th, giving me the whole first half of the month to pay. They also took off the last two late fees but could not “refund the ones that were over 60 days”. Scam artists. I have to wonder if they have a bean counter figuring out how to screw people by playing games with billing cycles and late fees. I bet if you do the math on that mistake, its a high 7 figure profit… total scam.

Capital 1 really sucks and my recent experience was when I noticed in my statements that they put $19/yr membership fees. They had this charged to me the 1st yr ( 3yrs ago) and they took it out when I complained and when I complained about this recent charges their only explanation is they cannot do it due the economic conditions. Capital 1 thinks they can what they want withkout even notify us first that they will put charges back. They sucks and I will be shopping for a new and better credit card provider.$19 /yr for all Cap 1 users is all of money for these suckers aside from them raising our APR’s.Dump CAPITAL ONE and find a better credit card provider.

Cap One sucks the BIG one….. Their Philipines customer service call center can’t even speak english enough to understand that just reading from a preformatted text does not equate to “CUSTOMER SERVICE” After 7 minutes of torturous on hold status, a supervisor attempts to patronize you with you being a “VALUED” customer so this is what we are going to do. The option available is not available to you, but thank you for calling… Is there anything else we can do for you today?

SO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE THAT appreciates you…. I’m taking my “VALUED” business elsewhere!

So much for the American Dream… All call centers for large corporates are ending up across the continent in 3rd world countries. depleting our own
    Americans a away of life… So sad………

I’m glad to see you people act SOOOO badly to a company that GAVE YOU MONEY in the first place. if you people were smart enough to actually read your terms and conditions when signing up for the card, you might have an understanding of why they do these things. i mean come on, they are a multi million dollar WORLDWIDE company, do you really think that they would be doing anything illegal?

Capital one has doneit again. I moved about a year ago and forgot i had a Capital one card I kept as an emergency card. I always left the card in a file at home so when i moved i did not change the address by mistake. My contact phone on the the card is my cell phone. Well this was a fee based card and the charged the annual fee. i never receaved teh billing and never receaved a call or email that the card was past due at 5 monthes past due they finally called. i paid off the card and ordered a replacent card to find i had no credit available on a card that has a large limit. Wheni called the said the account is permanantly closed because of the previous past due balance even though it was paid off. Now here is the fun part even though the account is closed they where going to send me a new card and i assume would have charged me the annual fee if i had not noticed the zero available balance on a closed card.

Capital 1 is “hands down” the WORST credit card company I have ever been involved with. They applied a late fee on an automated payment that’s been set up for over a year; then, after the $40 late fee pushed it over the limit they applied another $40 over the limit charge. This was done for three months straight and I was never even notified! I called in for a completely unrelated issue and since the customer service is outsourced to INDIA I was left trying to defend myself to someone who has not yet mastered the english language! Bottom line: Capital One is garbage. Save yourself the trouble and go with ANYONE else! Or flush your savings down the toilet, your money would be better spent that way!

Oh, and to Jimmy’s comment above, go ahead and join Capital one then partner. The terms and conditions are subject to change and with any other reputable company, these possible changes occur in a reasonable manner. Don’t be so quick to snap back when you’ve not experienced the ridiculous way this company handles business. You’re right, they are a multi-million dollar company, and guess what; they didn’t get that way by not taking peoples’ money! Use your head… ass.

I just spent 45 minutes on the phone with customer service, which was horrible by the way and ended up cancelling my card after 12 years with perfect history. GRRRR. ok, so now yall are crying about “deceptive” finance charges, some of the customer service reps may be outsourced and hard to understand, but the statement shows the finance charges in PLAIN ENGLISH!! if you people were smart enough not to max out the card and just make your payments on time, then there would be no problem! all you people complain about is C1 giving you all of these fees but YOU are the cause of them. and THEN you complain about the phone calls all the time, but when you get all of the fees and they don’t call you, you’re just as angry. bottom line is, don’t get a credit card if you’re not a very responsible person… ass.

I would like to post my own frustrations with Capital One. I have been a good customer with them for 11 years and for the first time in my life due to salary and hours being cut, I am having financial difficulties. I was up front with them and said that I wanted to make sure they got paid and could they combine their credit card with the unsecured loan of theirs (I have paid off two other loans early in the last 11 years) and take the term to the max which would lower my payments and help me out of a jam. Even with a credit score of 775 and a perfect history with them they said there is nothing they can do it is two seperate divisions. They would rather not get paid then work with me. What a horrible company. I am going to be all over the internet encouraging people to cut up their Capital One card and mail it to Leslie Spencer c/o Capital One Bank PO Box 85619 Richmond, VA 23285-5619. Make sure Capital One is NOT in your wallet. Thanks for letting me vent.

I had the C1 card for a few yrs with %3.19 but last month I received a letter that due to the economy the interest will be changed to %5.99 unless you cancel. Well I cancelled the card and I just received my bill with the new interest rate. I call them and the rep goes yes you did cancel but you didn’t specify that you wanted to keep your 3.19 rate. Needless to say I called him every name in the book and he got a supervisor on the line to correct my interest rate.

I inadvertently sent a payment to C1, which I had a previous account. Realizing the error, I called their customer service which confirmed in about a minute that I did not have an active account, but they still cashed the check, and after 26 days they still haven’t returned payment. So, if you cash a check knowing you are not entitled to the money, is that not a crime? Is C1′s defense that they are too stupid to match incoming payment to active account, when their rep could do it in seconds? I will relate this story to everyone I know and hope you do the same. This is a company I will never do business with again. KMA C1.

Captial one does suck. I lost my job after 25 years of service. I am having a very hard time finding a job. My Captial one account went into collection and It been a so bad I am not sure what to do. I tried working with the people from the collection to be told that they could only set up a payment plan for 6 months at a time. Ok find. Let me tell you if you dont baby sit these payment and forget to set them up again in 6 months . your bank account with be robbed. The collections company took every penny I had in my checking account with out any notice. After taking the only money I had 850.00 I recevied a summons from the collection company stating they are sueing my bank. So lord help me, my bank gave them every penny I had. Why didnt Capital one try to work with me before they sent this to collections ?. Was I to stupit to call them and work something out with them. Now i am way over my head and am afraid that I am now going to lose my house because I cant pay them because of the collection compay taking every penny I had. If I put money in this account will they keep taking it? This is sicking !… what has this world come to!!! Why cant people help each other when time are bad. why do they have to suck every bit of life out of you instead of helping. Nothing like loseing everything you worked so hard for all your life to go down the drain in a short time.

Greeting Gang! I can’t believe there is actually a blog about the worse company on the planet – yes, Capital One – Here is the good news, payback time starts NOW! let’s take these bastards down – they are unethical and rude. Heck I had better service from call centers in India and the Philippines than from their headquarter in Georgia!
I started a Twitter line – Called – CapitalOne TruthCanBuGly – let’s get the attention of the holding company or the CEO who apparently is too busy to look at how dangerous this blogging is to the Brand image of the company. I say if he does not realize, he should get fired.
There is an office called the General Attorney Office and Consumer Advocate Agencies you can complain to. Follow your statements VERY closely, they treat their customers like a one time deal – like ignorant people who can’t add one plus one.
Keep up the good work, and get the word out –

OK so first of all you people need to understand thats its only no hassle if you pay your damn bills!
Second the fees are 39.00 even, and you are assessed them if you are late or overlimit on your cycle date. the reason you get fees is because you made a legal agreement to pay on time each damn month. And most of you dont.
As well, all credit card charge you extra if you dont pay on time. Would you loan someone hundreds or thousands of dollars with no return? no it doesnt make sense. And you are charged overhead in the fees because believe or not, credit cards borrow the money we loan you from other places and if you go over your limit the places we borrow from charge us extra, and if you are late, same deal. we are not going to put up with your mistakes because you wont work at mc donalds.

nice blog a real goldmine of info, i just hope the right people see this in time. people who haven’t been robbed by these crooks, i think more and more people should start making blogs letting the world know.

that stay away if you value what you have worked hard for. life is full of wonderful experiences and bad ones, ones you wish you would have had seen some kind of warning. so as caring people as humans spread the word of this evil company. I know in life there are alot of ways to

become successful and rich, but doing it by robbing and stepping on peoples lives on the way up shouldn’t be one them. the Internet is full of horror stories all capital one. so once again people need, to spread the word, think about it there are thousands of teens about to get there first credit card. and capitol one will market them till they have them on the

hook like a drug dealer. dont let this happen to them it is a bad start to life, and to the dicks that replied from cp one, wait until you are on the other end of the phone before you talk, you guys know what you are doing dont play dump. we are not a bunch of monkeys that you can fool. but im not mad at the cp1 reps they are just cp1 puppets. doing what they are told.

hmmm cp1 is like that one girl friend that you just cant get rid of or wish you just would of never met, but hey its life and we are here to learn lessons on in it. and this was a big one. .. but any ways enjoy life keep loving like theres no tomorrow…

Actually, my experience was that it was a total f—ing hassle to pay the bills ontime….but then again, I was a “deadbeat” in credit industry terminology. You guys made it absolutely damn near impossible to pay the bill ontime, from shifting due dates, to 12 pages of non-sense, advertisements on the envelope for pete’s sake…I mean c’mon…I have to look at ads on the envelope before I open the bill? What kind of bush-league lameness is that?

“No hassle” — in a world where black is white, and up is down…sure, there’s no hassle to what you’re describing.
Now compare that to a credit union:
Q: I’m low on cash, can you waive the fee this month?
    A: Sure, no problem.

    That’s “no hassle”.

Capital One is the worst of them all! I had two credit cards with them for many years. Used them occasionally and paid off the balance each month. I even put up with and paid their rip off annual fees… until…they raised the interest rates to 29.99% on both accounts that had a credit balances. Then when I called and tried to CLOSE both accounts… they decided to charge both accounts ANOTHER annual fee AFTER I closed the accounts!!! I refused to pay another annual fee and then they tried to charge me late charges!! WOW! I talked nicely at first to their ignorant customer service people and then as the days wore on… fighting with these people… I got angry and told them exactly what I thought about their stealing, lying, stupidity and rip-off ways. If you have a Capital One account of any kind… I recommend that you dump it immediately. I finally got them to close both accounts by calling, faxing and e-mailing, over and over and over. It took over 3 months!!! Capital One SUCKS… BIG TIME!!!

Hey guys due to all respect i have for you i would like to say a couple of things. first i feel that those employees talking bad about the company that gave them a job are so unprofessional, we are going through an economical world wide crisis and for them to give you guys a job, well you should be greatful its not up to you to comment if Capital One is a bad company or not, i mean why would you get a credit card if you cant afford it????

Now credit card companies get the money from bigger institutions like visa AND mastercard do you guys think they will give the money away just like that??? of course if you borrow money you will pay interest on it, if not this companies wouldnt exist and last but not least if you guys read the terms and conditions all this info that you guys are crying so much about is on it and very clear. pay your full statement balance and avoid finance charges if not pay the interest rate you have, due to the crisis is logical they would raise the APR… there is no bad credit card companies out there just customers with no education.. read the terms and conditions!!!! youll be surprise of what you might find!!!!

i called customer service i heard they were located in central america they do have a better accent than the Philippine or the one in india. with the new obama law they are making great changes for the customers and they helped me waiving a couple of fees on my account and i even made a payment free of charge!!! i dont understand why they dont process payments with debit card only with checking accounts and that includes the web site, they also informed me of the cutt off time to make payments online which is 3pm eastern time and thats why i was getting the fees. i cant complain i had a good experience with them.

I am a student in need of a source of funding. So I tried to apply for a card and they told me what I would be eligible for I told her I did not want an annual fee. She said this card had one so I said I am ok, she then proceeded to say in 60 seconds I can find out if I am accepted, so I said ok. She then comes back and says it didn’t work you will know in 2 weeks. I cannot cancel my application and I am stuck waiting for the offer to come. While trying to cancel they bounced me around from dept to dept and would not help me at all. Who would want to use a credit card with such horrible customer service as this? I will surely not be associated with them for the rest of my life.

Has anyone had this problem. I applied for a capital one card this past SUNDAY. I was approved. I received an Email on WED that my card was on its way. I called THURS to find out what my credit limit was going to be (THEY NEVER TELL U). Then on FRI I got my card. I activated the card and created a PIN. ALL was good – 39.00 activation fee, but I was ok with that. So then I head to the movies w three friends, and I decided to try out the card for the first time. I went to the ATM and took out $20 cash. It told me to contact the financial institution. So I called Capital one, and they told me that in my application- I apparently chose “NO CASH ADVANCES”, and because I did a cash advance it was now in the hand of their Fraud Department. The representative had me refer to question 3 on the application – Would you be interested in blank checks to use for case advances? Yes/NO. I chose NO. I dont want any BLANK CHECKS. Per the rep- Saying NO to that means I do not want Cash Advancement. SO now they want me to send 4 proofs of my ID for them to reopen the account in 1 week. This includes Drivers License, Phone Bill/Gas bill, recent paystub, and my Bank Statement…hehee I basically told them – NO. I am not applying for a loan. And since I never used the card I plan on not correcting YOUR ERROR. It was your “misleading” question. IN fact, on activation the machine told me that “MY PIN WAS SUCCESSFUL AND I HAVE XXX.XX dollars available FOR CASH ADVANCEMENT. If I do nothing w the card, then it will close automatically in 20 days. Bastards..hehe.

My wife and I have had to deal with a significant reduction in income that has led us to try to reduce monthly payments so we do not fall behind.

Everyone has helped in some way (BofA, Discover, Sony) but not Capital One. They refuse to offer payment plans, reduced interst, etc..

Their respones are similar to those Vikings (commercial) would say when raping and pillaging the people, “screw you” you shouldn’t be having trouble. In some way, wish the problems that had existed earlier would come around again and then we / the government tell them to go get screwed and they have to go belly up.

If anyone else wants to start a movemwnt against them, count me in ( jhick2267@aol.com)

I had an interest rate of 4.9 for approx 10 years. Great deal.
The went up to 19.0 out of the blue. I called them and they put it
back to 4.9 for 6 months. Now they went up again. I called again
and this time no deal. All my other cards have less interest. I guess
they have plenty of money now and they do not need any more of
mine. I never missed any payments. Maybe out government can give
    me a low interest loan.

FANTASTIC! Capital One is still pulling that bullshit stunt, as of Feb 2010.

I’ve been a cardholder for 13 years .. and my recent statement saw my APR move from 4.95% to 15.9% in one felled swoop.

Like many of you, I always pay on-time and (many times) more than the Minimum Payment amount.

Regardless, I placed a call, thinking they would value my long-standing relationship. After sitting through 7 minutes of the Phillipines-based rep’s SCRIPTED banter of WHY I should bend over, take it in the ass AND apparently like it, she concluded by saying there’s nothing she can do about it at this time. She did, however, say she understood my dismay. Wow, I felt better immediately.

Best bet is to pay off the card, either with cash or transfer to a more stable company like American Express (good deals if you have great credit).

Oh boy I hate calling places that I know are in India! I ask for the supervisor asap who denies he is off shore. I lost my job asked to refinance or lower the intrest or is their some program for hardship. I was told no a huge company like Capital wouldn’t budge! And the super said I could get the new 4% by going done and buying a new car. I think sometimes when we outsource the workers enjoy hearing the wooo’s of Americans.

I have bad credit, so I got a secured credit card or whatever they call it, basically, I sent them $1000, and they sent me a CC with a supposed $1,000 credit limit. I work as a fishing guide up north, so I am not always around to deal with mail but I don’t leave bills piling up either, I like it all dealt with. Anyways before I went up north I bought some shoes and some groceries on my card, I figured that C1 had $1000 of my money – this $160 could just wait 3 months to get paid when I got back from up north. It turns out that this “no hassles” company was calling my parent’s daily, as I use my parents address as I’m always moving around. I called them as soon as I found out and instructed them to NEVER phone again, that they had my money, I didn’t have any of their money, so stop the harrassment. They sent me a cheque for $840 and closed my account. WTF? I just wanted a CC because they are needed sometimes for hotels/car rentals, etc. Capitol One was horrible to deal with, I wasn’t a good customer because they had no way to rip me off!

Capital One does indeed SUCK! I just opened my latest statement I got in the mail and notice my interest rate went from 4.9% to 15.9%……Give me a break. My payments have always been on time and I have had a good relationship with them for a long time. When I did call to find out why they gave me a long song and dance and I even asked to talk to a supervisor all to no avail. Basically they just told me that they raised everyone’s rates across the board so I told them to cancel my card and then I asked the woman supervisor “guess what’s not in my wallet?” and promptly hung up. I encourage all of you who come to this thread to do the same…….screw Capital One!!!!!

I agree……Capital One Sucks!!! I owed them less than $200 and wanted to pay them, but their balance didn’t agree with my balance. So, I asked them to send me an itemization of my account. Instead, they sold my account to an outside collection agency. The collection agency now had an incorrect balance and said that was the balance Capital One gave them and I would have to take it up with Capital One if I disputed it. Called Capital One again, and I was told they can’t help me as they no longer own the account…..I would have to take it up with the collection agency who now owns the account. How do you get around this bologna!

I had a Capital One credit card and got in some financial trouble but I paid them off and kept the card just to have my credit score stay up. Well today I decided to call Capital One and get my card since my credit report shows I have an account with them and $300 credit and I have been paying for the last 4 years my membership fee of $19. I called and took me forever to speak to a real person who wanted my 16 digit number. I told her over and over again I was calling to get a new card. After 20 minutes to get a real person and have them figure out what i needed they told me there is a restriction on my card. I asked what the membership was for and she told me it is the benefit of using their card. I said I have not had that benefit so i would like my membership fee back. Well they put me on hold and the whole call lasted 1 hour and 6 minutes but since I had the restriction put on my card in 2005 but still paying a membership fee due to thinking I had the account they are now sending me $76 back! Not a lot but i am happy to be rid of them.

Capital one is horrible. They are predatory with their fees + penalties. What they don’t tell you in the commercial is that they are describing themselves.

My suggestion to you is to close your Capital One card completely (be sure it’s cancelled). Don’t pay a membership fee for a credit card, unless it’s American Express. Obviously, don’t spend more than you can afford. Treat it like an ATM card and only buy things you can pay off each month. It’s difficult at times, and sometimes you have to make it stretch — go with a decent card and you won’t have nearly as many problems. Look into credit unions from your employer, you’d be surprised how friendly they are to their members over the corporate guys.
