An Early Christmas

30 Nov

an early christmas present to myself…

Specs:

  • ASUS A8V Deluxe Motherboard
  • Corsair 1 GB (512mbx2) 184-pin DDR PC-3200 RAM
  • AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (2.2ghz) 90Nanometer (winchester core)
  • eVGA 256mb nVidia GEForce FX5700 AGP8 (w/ Tuner)
  • CoolerMaster Centurion 5 Mid-Tower ATX Case
  • Western Digital 74GB Raptor 10,000RPM 4.5ms seek

Operating System:

Dual boot, XP SP1 (corp) and Linux (Gnoppix)

All said and done, the total damage was just over $1100 (thanks to Newegg.com and pricegrabber.com). Seeing as how the last PC I bought new (i didn’t build) cost me $1600, I’d say this is a step in the right direction.

Now, the question is, can I put it all together?

I was hesitant to spend $150 on a 74gb harddrive, but (In)Sanity convinced me it was worth it.

I’m still looking for a good Linux distro, Gnoppix will give me a taste of what Debian has to offer, if it doesn’t handle upgrades well, I will switch back to Gentoo (64).
