Pennywise – Land of the Free

29 Mar

Pennywise is my favorite band, for those of you haven’t heard of them, I suggest you pickup a copy of one of their albums. This is the one band I’ve listened to since I was in high school that hasn’t degraded in quality with successive album releases. Their next album is slated for Summer 2005.

You can listen along to My God.

Lyrics to My God
People on the street they want to find a god they’ll never know
Organized religion pulls the blinds then they pull the wool
They open up your head they’re fucking with your mind
Now you can’t see because you’re blind

You try to make amends but your heads still spinning round
The church of Jesus Christ says it’s time don’t fuck around
You want to go to heaven you see it isn’t free
Give your money up to me

My god is not the one that you wanna to see
Your god is a mirage, a conspiracy
You pray for forgiveness cos your sinning
Scared to death so your money you’ll be giving

Holier than thou with your one way morality
I think your shallow faith isn’t based in reality
You don’t like how were living,
We’re sinful and obscene
Why are you judging me?

You’re richer than god, but you’re crying out for more
You’re living like a king, while you steal from the poor
You wanna be forgiven, get on your knees and pray
Send in your cash and be saved

My god is not the one that you wanna to see
Your god is a mirage, a conspiracy
You pray for forgiveness cos your sinning
Scared to death so your money you’ll be giving, yeah!

Better hope you’ve been chosen to be saved
Cos your empathy only goes so far today
Pay no mind to those in pain
They just want the souls that are willing to pay… their way
Your god’s not for me

My god is not the one that you wanna to see
Your god is a mirage, a conspiracy
You pray for forgiveness cos your sinning
Scared to death so your money you’ll be giving, yeah!

My god is not the one that you wanna to see
Your god is a mirage, a conspiracy
You pray for forgiveness cos your sinning
Scared to death so your money you’ll be giving, yeah!

Stop!

Windows XP SP2 Upgrade Nagging

29 Mar

Why is it that when I select the checkbox “do not notify of these updates again”, Microsnot keeps asking me to upgrade?

I don’t know how many times I’ve said NO THANK YOU, I DON’T WANT SP2, yet they still don’t get the f-ing message.

(Can’t wait to install Gentoo on my pc again).

Cell Phone Users: 100 points!

26 Mar

I’m sure this is the driver’s fault, but I could’ve easily prevented it had I not been walking down the street while talking on a cell phone.

Today I went for a good hour long walk, and was talking to a buddy of mine on my cell phone while waiting for the crosswalk to turn green. When it did, I stepped into the street, and from out of seeemingly nowhere, a red miata turning right hits me. I jumped up, and at first thought – “wow, that was close”…but then she hit the gas, unbeknownst to her that she had hit me. I remember thinking “WHAT THE HECK???” as the car started to speed out of the turn and I rolled up ontop of the hood, and then back off and landed on my butt in the street. She started to slow down, as I yelled at the car. She motioned she would pull over (duh!), and at that point I picked up my cell phone, and proceeded to cross the street.

I didn’t realize it until I had already walked off, but my wrist is messed up. Sprained or at least bruised. It’s some of the worst pain I’ve felt since my ankle got ran over a year ago. I realize I probably should’ve stuck around and taken her information so her insurance could pay the bills (hopefully, there won’t be any – Kaiser charges $150 in the emergency room, so I said “Forget it, I’ll go in if it still hurts next week”.

Some drivers. No friggin’ clue. At least she wasn’t driving a suburban :-)

Importing Adblock Rules for FireFox

24 Mar

If you haven’t already heard about FireFox, you should download it, instead of using Microsoft Internet Explorer for browsing the web. FireFox is more secure, has great features like tabbed browsing, and 3rd party extensions (like plugins).

The best extension is Adblock for FireFox. It lets you weed out all the files, images and ads loaded from known ad servers.

Install the plugin here. Then go to Tools->Adblock->Preferences, and then click “Adblock Options”, and choose “Import filter”. First you’ll need to save my adblock server list file, which will block out 90% of the ads on the internet.

Top Dog in San Jose (From Berkeley)

17 Mar

I’ve been going to Top Dog in Berkeley since I was a kid. After Cal football games, my dad and I would usually stop in for a bird dog and hot link. The other day, I heard on the radio that Top Dog opened a location in San Jose!

I went there for lunch, and it was exactly the same as in Berkeley.

You can visit the San Jose Top Dog web site. They are located at 284-B South 11th St. San Jose, CA 95112 (Corner of South 11th and San Carlos)

Phone: 1.408.298.DOGS(3647)
Hours: 11 A.M.-10 P.M. Everyday

Today I had a Hot Link and a Cooked Bratwurst. Prices are $2.50 (tax included), and 75 cents for a 16 oz. drink. Nice to know they didn’t over price their menu as well.

Packet8 Voice Mail Upgrade?

16 Mar

Here’s an email I sent to Packet8.Net sales and tech support (drop ‘em a line if you agree).

I’ve written about them before, but I still hate their voice mail system.
Hi,

I’ve been using Packet8 for nearly a year now, and I have to say, I have very few complaints. A few downtimes here and there (mainly the phone doesn’t come back online when it goes down, unless I reset the phone box). Troubling, but expected via the nature of the Internet.

The biggest problem I have is the whole Voicemail system. First off, you can’t just pick up the phone and dial your number to reach voicemail (like you do on cellular phones), Instead we have to dial: “012-0555″

I still haven’t memeorized it. Furthermore, for dialing voice mail away from home, I have to dial: “1-888-898-7887″…why couldn’t have chosen a system that works like cellular, which is what everyone is used to. Simply dial your number, if you’re not calling from your phone number, hit # when you hear the greeting to access Voice mail. Much easier than having to remember 2 funky phone numbers, (3 if you are outside the USA).

Also, the menu and interface for listening to voicemail is bad. I can’t figure out how to delete them, half the time I get a “Hello—” and it’s cut off. Not sure why that is, then I can’t simply hit #7 to delete it, after the message is over it won’t delete it. I have to hit #7 WHILE the message is playing (this doesn’t make sense to me – as you would want to hear the entire message before deleting as well as deleting in the middle).

I also couln’t figure out how to skip the message. If I have 10 message, and the first one is one I want to skip, instead of simply skipping, I have to listen to the entire thing. Other than that, keep up the good work!

By the way, I’m posting this gripe on www.chovy.com in the hopes that somebody at Packet8 will re-act to it, and choose a more user-friendly VMail system.

os302846.bin File in Shared Docs

14 Mar

I noticed one of my shared folders keeps having a file called “os302846.bin” show up in it. I have no idea what it is, other than possibly a bootable image of some sort.

Google turned up nothing, neither did MSN or Yahoo web search.

I deleted it once, and it’s back again. The only thing I can think of that could have happened was that someone using my free WIFI connection placed it there. However, I don’t see anything like that in the router log file.

If anyone has seen this file or knows what it does, please email me!

I’m at a total loss as to what it does. You can download it if you want or if you know how to disassemble it to see what it does, I’m quite curious.

Thanks,
Chovy
